KIK Book Shelves
The items below are for convenience. We can shuffle things around any time. If you click on the e-mail address, infra, a blank e-mail note will pop up.
a) Write what you wish to share, change, append:
b) Check the "To" line - it may have filled in your address?? If so, fill in mine [ kkeating@comcast.net] (only until I ferret out a couple of IP address probs.-sorry), and c) Ramble, crank, append things - whatever, then hit "send".
At the moment it comes to my mailbox. That's good, IF you were just sending something to me. Unfortunately, if you were sending a group-mail note, I have to spot that and then to forward it to the group (not much of an effort, but - def. inefficient). If you haven't time to set up your address book for this, it does no real harm to use the somewhat clumsy two step pattern (you send it to me, I send it to the group)
For this one, we now have a solution! Everyone has okayed adding their address to the group mail. However, until you set up your mail program to send E-mail to the group automatically, make the SUBJECT LINE "MOE, from [your name]" and send it to: kkeating@comcast.net I will send a text file that should help you set up the group in your mail program.
SEEKING ALPHA - Several of us already have accts. there (free). Consider setting up an acct. attached to your e-mail address, or at least check it out. They e-mail articles on mkt related subjects per your selection directly to your e-mail address. A list of topics is somewhere on their site. Their most desirable characteristic is that they append comments at the end of every article, and the commentators are almost always rational - both sides of most stories emerge from the comments section. To tell the truth, the comments are often more useful than the articles. They pay a small fee for articles submitted for publication - if published. The URL, below, seems to connect to a registration page. They often change this, but currently all you need do is list a few tics of interest, your e-mail address, and a password (you make it up)..
http://www.seekingalpha.com/
The URL's below should link to sites of interest. (Working on it - some of these links are shakey.) Please send me YOUR list of links, include anything you find helpful. If you can, note what you trust/like/hate? about them.
Your warning about a slick, dishonest/ignorant, source is incredibly valuable. Only someone relatively expert in a given field is likely to spot the intentional misdirection (or outright lying) that is, sometimes, rampant. It seems likely that this sort of info can only help increase the accuracy of our collecive understanding. There is no way we all read the same sources. (Bob, I recall you were hooked on the ECONOMIST several years ago. Still trust them?)
At the moment I suspect that there is no use in your putting in time hunting down URL's for these items, since I have to see ONLINE what they will actually allow; however, if you have them, kindly include them.
YALE ENVIRONMENT360 - Just figure I'm biased. I think
these articles are worth the read; and, I trust their accuracy. Common sense says that
their bias will be protection of our environment first, then . . . .)
http://e360.yale.edu/
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN - as always, reviews of current
topics, but usually a year out of date (actually needed to maintain their form of accuracy),
written by a leader in the field. Always struck me as running about a year behind
AMERICAN SCIENTIST in reviewing "hot" topics.
http://www.scientificamerican.com/
SCIENCE NEWS is one of the few print subscriptions I just cannot give up (remarkably
up to date re the latest national meetings, major new contributions, publications, etcs. -
high class READER'S DIGEST for compulsive scientists nosing around in the fields of others;
http://www.sciencenews.org/index.asp
AMERICAN SCIENTIST more sophisticated than SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, surprizingly
similar author list (intended for in lab individuals, not as bad as SCIENCE!).
http://www.americanscientist.org/?
THE NATION (prob. too liberal for our purposes, but accurate.)
http://www.thenation.com/#axzz2WxbG2JVr
A.A.A.S. (SCIENCE) These sites are aimed at archiving high value info. from >a single SCIENCE article
They are AAAS knowledge environment web sites, well funded. They should be worth checking
out on occasion (Have to find the URL for the set of single topic AAAS Sites. This one targets aging . It's listed below. I placed it here as a place marker.)
http://sageke.sciencemag.org/"
U.S. gov. servers- Have to dig out my list. http://www.gov /
http://www.gov /
Canadian gov. servers (limited to British Columbia here.)
http://www.gov.bc.ca/
NIH Pub Med (prior address for Medline) If you want to go to NIH Pub Med, just click here! NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICS
http://nationalgeographic.com
LANCET http://thelancet.com/ This is worth waiting
for the download. You must pan to the right (just like panning down in that there is a thin
slide bar-this time at the bottom of the image.)
http://www.freemedicaljournals.com/
SCIENCE - Aug. 31, 2001 This URL links links to a AAAS web site which promises
exceptional information concerning Aging. It is an AAAS knowledge environment Web
site, well funded. It should be worth checking out on occasion (if, like me, you're having
trouble alphabetizing the pieces as they fall off.)
http://sageke.sciencemag.org/"
The links below, are off subject; but, too good to toss at the moment .
If you are teaching, several might prove useful.
WINDOWS TO THE UNIVERSE. Educational site. Could help with basic geology, weather, etc.
(limited for our purposes.)
http://www.windows2universe.org/
MUSEUM OF HOAXES (picked up from Science ~2001) This URL links to a collection of materials associated with scientific hoaxes. Ok, so it's silly. Makes a good break.
